Purple Heart

The sixth hardest wood in the Timber tones range with a Janka hardness rating of 2713 lbf.
This wood has many uses including Cabinet Making, Carvings, flooring, Chemical Vats (very acid resistant), diving boards and boat building.
The wood is obtained from the Peltogyne pubescens tree found in Brazil. It can grow up to 150 ft and has a trunk diameter of 3 - 4ft.
Our Purple Heart plectrums are manufactured from off cuts from musical instrument and furniture manufacturing.

Interesting Facts:
The heart wood is dull-brown when freshly cut but it changes to the vivid and well know purple colour, however with prolonged exposure to ultra violet rays the colour is toned down to a dark purple / brown.

Purple Heart is on the cusp between an Electric Guitar and Acoustic Guitar use. Warm mellow tones can be achieved on an electric Guitar however the relative hardness of Purple heart is likely to slightly brighten the tones of many Acoustic Guitars.
