African Sapele
The fourteenth hardest wood in the Timber tones range with a Janka hardness rating of 1510 lbf.
African Sapele is very similar to Mahogany, with a distinctive figure and is typically applied where figure is important.
The wood is obtained from the Entandrophragma cylindricum tree found mainly in Bolivia and can grow up to 140 ft high.
Our African Sapele plectrums are manufactured from off cuts from musical instrument manufacturing.
Interesting Facts:
African Sapele is commonly used in instrument manufacture. Ibanez, Taylor, Martin, Larrivee and Esteve all use Sapele for either back and sides of Acoustic Guitars or the tops for Electric. In addition Sapele is used on Stomp Boxes like the Logarhythm, Harps and necks for Ukeleles
African Sapele has very nice balanced warm tones. It should add some depth to most Acoustic Guitars emphasising the lower and mid range frequencies.
