Timber Tones
The Timber Tones stall was definitely the highlght of my day at the Bristol Guitar Show 2012! Contrary to the name, they don't just make wooden picks.
There are lots of things I really like about these Timber Tone picks. Firstly, they are Eco Friendly. They are mainly made from the bi-products of other items. The wooden ones are made of off-cuts from guitar makers and furniture manufacturers. The Leather ones are made from the off-cuts of guitar strap manufacturing. The Buffalo Bone and Horn picks are bi-products from animals farmed for Steak, Leather and Mozzarella cheese!!!

Timber Tones
Star Tones
Star Tones are for those who like a big chunky plectrum.
They are made from materials with various hardnesses and thus tones. The three large tips make these picks ideal for Gypsy Jazz or Bass Guitar.
These picks are over 4mm thick and approx 33mm from tip to flat, yet they have a sharp 'Jazz' tip allowing accurate picking.
They also have a grip feature, which is a 7mm diamter hole in the middle with a chamfer on both sides making them very comfortable to hold.

Tribal Tones - Black Buffalo Horn
Tribal Tones are bigger and thicker than most plectrums.
They are manufactured from Black Buffalo Horn and have a Jazz pointed tip.

Shell Tones - Mother of Pearl
Shell Tones are manufactured from various Mother of Pearls and Mussel shell. They are hard wearing with a bright tone making them suitable for electric guitar.
Felt Tones
Felt Tones are designed specifically for the Ukulele. They are manufactured from Natural Wool Felt, which is soft and ideal for strumming and Synthetic Felt, which is harder and used for picking the Ukulele strings.
I recently started playing the uke and bought 3 picks: an unbranded wool, unbranded synthetic and a Leather Tone. I hated the first too as they were too scratchy so have been playing with the Leather Tone which I really like. These however are completely different to the unbranded ones. I really like these - neither are scratchy at all. The wool one is very soft (floppy!) and the synthetic is firmer.
I've been working in a class with 27 kids all learning the uke and every day they fight over my Leather Tone so now they can try all three!
Felt Tones or Leather Tones are definitely the picks to use if you're a uke player! Don't settle for any unbranded nonsense!
