Mexican Bocote
The ninth hardest wood in the Timber tones range with a Janka hardness rating of 2200 lbf.
Mexican Bocote is logged by hand with mules in a selective cutting method in Southern Mexico. It is a close relation to Ziricote and as such as beautiful patterns of gold, brown and black. The size of the material being quite small limits the potential uses however it is often used for very high end instrument manufacture, jewellery boxes and veneers.
The wood is obtained from the Cordia elaeagnoide tree found in Southern Mexico that can reach 100ft in size.
Our Mexican Bocote plectrums are manufactured from off cuts from musical instrument manufacturing.
Interesting Facts:
Mexican Bocote is highly prized for its dramatic wild striping. These dark brown streaks, which sometimes form in concentric circles, give Bocote its defining look and lend finished products a truly distinctive appearance.
Mexican Bocote is a mid hardness timber and as such should not have a dramatic brightening or mellowing affect on an acoustic guitar. If the frequency of your guitar suits your ear then Bocote would be a good choice to improve the overall tone without impacting the pitch.
